Mir Ranjan Negi, the former Indian hockey coach, has a secret desire. The contestant of Jhalak Dikhlaa Ja wants to set up a hockey academy in the memory of his late son Abhi Ranjan, who passed away in a motorbike accident two years back.
“If I win Jhalak I would like to invest all that money into the foundation of the hockey academy,” says Negi.
After the darkness of 16 years, this Chack De India real life star has come a long way. He has been keeping strong even after his career that wiped out and son’s death. Today as a strong contender of Jhalak he says, “Winning and losing is the part of the game. I’ve no whine even if I loose. Before leaving the show I know I’ve made my place in the hearts of the people.”
In this dance reality show he has never asked for votes. Negi has kept that commitment to sportsmanship alive. “I was able to fulfill my dream of teaching hockey from the grass root level even after my removal. That’s the reason I don’t ask for public votes as they are clever enough to decide. I had never asked for anything in my life. I know if I’m good enough I’ll get it.”
Ask him about how hockey always got step motherly treatment as compared to hockey and Negi gets emotional. “Though hockey is our national game but it never got that place in the hearts of citizens. The government has to be blamed for not putting interest in the national game of India. They always promoted other sports. What did I get from the government? Nothing, But I don’t complain. I know I’m capable enough to do everything and support my family. Today Chack De India and Jhalak have given me my name back and I really want to do something good for my country.”
Well Mr Negi we wish you luck for your other performances on Jhalak and hope that your dream of a hockey academy comes true.
