Nikita Sharma and Ankit Bathla share their experience of working with Farooq Sheikh
Best remembered for his performances in films like Shatranj Ke Khiladi, Chashme Buddoor, his most popular television show Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai and play Tumhari Amrita, 65-year old Farooq Sheikh expired after he suffered a heart attack in Dubai last night. Born on 25 March, 1948, Sheikh made a tremendous contribution to theatre, films and TV as well. The veteran actor was last seen in the 2013 film Club 60 post the culmination of his role in Life OK’s Do Dil EK Jaan (Nautanki Films Pvt. Ltd). Actress Nikita Sharma had the privilege of working with Farooq in Do Dil Ek Jaan, where she played the role of his daughter. Ankit Bathla, on the other hand, shared screen space with the veteran actor in Club 60. An aghast Nikita mourned, “I am extremely disturbed and shocked to hear of his death. I spent nearly 20 to 25 days in a month’s shooting with him while we were shooting for the show in Kashmir. He was the most humble, jovial and down-to-earth person I ever met in my life. Though I was a debutante yet he had so much of gratitude while speaking to a fresher like me.” “It was an amazing learning experience with him. I am going to miss him a lot because he was the most experienced and well-known actor I shared screen presence with. His acting was so natural, it would come across as if he was communicating with me and not mouthing his dialogues,” she added. Recounting a memorable incident she shared, “I will never forget Farooqji treating the entire crew when he took all of us out for dinner on the last day of shooting in Kashmir. He was a big foodie and had a fetish for Kashmiri food. He particularly loved eating Wazwan, a very popular Kashmiri dish. I will always cherish that moment.” Ankit shared, “Having played his son in Club 60, the news of his passing away makes me very depressed. It’s also a great loss for the industry and mankind in general. May his soul rest in peace. I remember during my first photo session for the film I was very nervous and Farooq sir made me sit in his room and asked about my goals. He talked in length about my life and career and after that I found a father figure in him. He would always tell me that I have a lovely and charming smile. He said, “dare you ever stop smiling’. I can never forget that line of his. I will miss him a lot.” Nikita and Ankita, you are indeed lucky and honoured to have worked with such a legend.
