MUMBAI: And the wait is over! Tonight, on 29th July 2025, the first episode of the much-awaited Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 aired, and it was nothing short of a nostalgic rollercoaster.

The episode began with Tulsi (Smriti Irani) delivering a poignant monologue about the significance of the Tulsi plant in Indian households and everyday life. The following scenes beautifully established how Tulsi continues to be the emotional backbone and the moral compass of the Virani family, with her presence deeply woven into the lives of each family member. Her bond with the family remains as strong and heartfelt as ever.

The premiere skillfully balanced sentiment and suspense. While it struck an emotional chord with long-time fans, it also introduced a layer of mystery, raising several questions that are sure to keep viewers hooked and eager for the upcoming episodes.

What truly stood out was the makers’ thoughtful integration of iconic dialogues and emotional cues — subtle yet powerful callbacks designed to instantly resonate with audiences who fondly remember watching the original series over two decades ago.

25 years later, the Virani household has undergone considerable changes. While Gautam and Sahil are now based out of town handling business affairs, Hemant is shown to be practicing law in Delhi. He returns to Shanti Niketan to join the family in celebrating Mihir and Tulsi’s 38th wedding anniversary.

Mihir continues to embody the dependable and morally upright “green flag” character he has been for most of the original series. However, in this second installment, his persona carries a deeper layer of tenderness — he is portrayed as more romantic and emotionally expressive, especially toward Tulsi.

Apart from the iconic title track, the background score that once played during Tulsi’s key moments in the original series has also been retained — and it beautifully amplifies the wave of nostalgia, bringing back the sweet memories of the first installment.

The new generation in the family includes Pari, Angad, and Hrithik. Interestingly, it is established that Pari and Angad do not share direct blood ties with the Virani lineage. In a telling scene, Pari confides in Angad, saying they need to bring more gifts because they are "different" from the rest — a line that subtly emphasizes the mystery surrounding their presence in the household. Meanwhile, Pari is also shown to be involved in a secret romantic relationship, adding another layer to her character.

Gayatri, on the other hand, continues to harbor feelings of jealousy and insecurity, particularly over Tulsi’s revered position in the family. She remains bitter that despite her own contributions and upbringing, Tulsi continues to command the most respect. Gayatri is convinced that a major storm is looming — one that will shatter the Virani family.

The episode concludes on a tense and emotional note, with Tulsi appearing visibly dejected as she senses an approaching storm. She turns to God in prayer, asking for protection over her family from the turmoil that seems inevitable. The episode leaves viewers with a lingering and powerful question: will Tulsi’s values and upbringing ultimately prevail?

All in all, the premiere delivered a well-rounded experience, striking a fine balance between emotion, nostalgia, mystery, and entertainment — all elevated by outstanding performances. Smriti Irani and Amar Upadhyay, reprising their iconic roles as Tulsi and Mihir, slipped back into character effortlessly, as though no time had passed at all.

It truly felt as if Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi had never left our screens.

TellyChakkar gives the first episode a strong four and a half stars out of five. We thoroughly enjoyed the premiere and confidently mark it as a highly recommended watch.
