MUMBAI: On Saturday, Bengali TV actor Pratyusha Paul alleged that she has received rape threats on social media by unknown persons. She added that a few morphed images of her have been released on pornographic websites in order to malign her image.

As per the police, a cyber complaint has been filed by Pratyusha and the probe is underway. However, no arrests have been made so far. 

A senior officer of the Kolkata Police said, “We have initiated a case under various sections of the Information Technology (IT) Act 2000 and the Indian Penal Code on the basis of a complaint lodged by the woman.”.

On Saturday, while speaking to media persons, Pratyusha said she received rape threats and her pictures were morphed and shared on social media. The actress also alleged that whenever she would block a profile that was harassing her, a second profile was made just to send her threats and messages. “I was receiving threats that I would be raped. Initially, I was asked by the police to ignore it but the harassment went on. I feared for my life.”, she said.

While speaking to a leading news agency, Pratyusha said, “This has been happening to me for the last one year. Initially, I ignored the threats but recently it went out of hand and I complained to the police. The person(s) keep changing his/her account when I block them and threaten me of rape.”.

She added, “The person(s) released my morphed images on pornographic websites and even sent those to my mother and friends. This is a matter of concern for me.", she said.

On Saturday, the actor took to her Instagram and gave an update on her well being to her fans. “I’m doing a lot better than before.. thank you so much for checking on me y’ll.”, she wrote on her Instagram story.
