After toiling for four years, it was finally D day for journalist-scriptwriter Mushtaq Sheikh. The writer is well-known in the TV circles for penning scripts for Balaji Telefilms, and also for his close association with the queen of soaps, Ekta Kapoor. The occasion we are talking about is the recent launch of a biography, Still Reading Khan (abbreviated as SRK) penned by Mushtaq on none other than the King of Bollywood - Shahrukh Khan. SRK and Sheikh go back together, a long way. He has earlier written two other books on the actor titled The Making of Asoka and Devdas - The Indian Hamlet. The coffee table book, Still Reading Khan was unveiled by SRK himself on 11 October at The Grand Maratha Sheraton. Present at the launch where the who's who from the entertainment industry. Amongst his near and dear ones were Juhi Chawla and hubby Jay Mehta, Farha Khan, Shahrukh Mirza, Karan Johar, Sabina Merchant and of course wife Gauri Khan. Others representing the Bollywood brigade were Celina Jaitely, Abbas Mastan, Poonam Sinha, Jeetendra, Farhan and Javed Akhtar, Sohail Khan, Vivek Waswani, Chunky Pandey, Deepak Tijori, Ritu Shivpuri, Rajat Bedi, Adtiya Pancholi, Ritesh Sidhwni, photographers Rakesh Shreshtra and Subi Samuel…..the list is endless! Coming to our telly fraternity, the attendees were Chetan Hansraj, Saakshi Tanwar, Suvarna Jha, Nikhil Arya, Iijaz Khan, Nataasha, Apoorva and Shilpa Salkani, Manish and Poonam Goyal and Iqbal Khan with fiancée. They preferred to hang around in their circle as they didn't seem to know many people there. But what made their heads turn was the arrival of Balaji honcho Ekta Kapoor! The event was anchored by funnyman Sajid Khan who adopted his impeccable style and made sure everyone was in splits. An AV (audio-visual) was shown that covered many people from SRK's life, who extended their support by expressing their opinion on the coffee table book. It was a proud moment for Mushtaq, who personally attended all his guests and thanked everyone who had extended their support, especially Shahrukh and the publishers Om Books International. And finally SRK took over the mike which left one and all mesmerized! He spoke right from his heart and was humble enough to mention that it was rare that a biography on a living person was being penned as he felt that there are far more deserving people, like his seniors, on whom volumes can be written. He also missed his parents and wished that they'd be alive to see that day.The highlight of the evening was the cake cutting ceremony when all the film directors, who were present, graced the stage along with SRK with, belie it a not, a sword in their hand! SRK quipped that if his directors hadn't encouraged him, he would have used that sword for a different purpose! The event turned out to be one classy affair, not the run-of-the-mill types, as it was well attended by the cr?me de la cr?me of the industry. Also what was noteworthy were the arrangements and scrumptious cuisine served.King Khan is still remembered for his remarkable performances in TV shows like Fauji, Circus and Dusra Kewal and has become an icon for all those who embark the small screen with dreams to make it big on the big screen. Just like everything that SRK touches turns gold, we hope that this coffee table book too turns out to be a sellout!
