REVIEW: Ronit Roy and Sangeeta Ghosh in 'Swaran Ghar' are a golden hit but the stereotypes are a letdown!

MUMBAI: Swaran Ghar is an upcoming show on Colors produced by Ravi Dubey and Sargun Mehta under Dreamiyata Productions. Their first venture, Udaariyaan, has been a huge success. It has been loved by the audiences. It is doing very well on the TRP charts.

The story as seen in the promo depicts an emotional detachment between parents and their children, implying that if you can divorce your spouse, why can't you separate your children if the relationship has evolved into a formality? When you assumed your children would be your support system in old age, they chose to abandon you when you retired from your long-term employment and duties.

But one episode into the show, you realize that the promo might have sold it too different from what it offers. Despite the obvious comparison with 'Baghbaan', as it is based on the same premise, 'Swaran Ghar' is the story of a mother's biased love for her kids than it is of kids drifting apart from their parents.

Sangeeta Ghosh as 'Swaran' is a mother obsessed with her children's wellbeing. She relies on the memories of the past to live in her present. Swaran is an ideal mother who does more than what is required from her, and towards the end of the episode, you see the desperate mother logging for children and that can throw you off a bit, but it's her chemistry with Bedi Sahab aka Ronit Roy which makes for great viewing.

Ronit Roy charms as Kawaljeet Bedi, the patriarch of the family who is still in love with his wife Swaran, who can see through the intentions of the kids but also understands the love that Swaran has for the kids and is just trying to make her understand little by little.

The children, Nakul, Vikram, and Yug, are all different personalities. Nakul still has a soft spot for his parents, but is unbelievably rude. Vikram is more centered on what's better for him and has a clouded judgment, whereas Yug is an all-out brat who uses emotion to coax money out of his parents to chase his dream.

But there is a very big reason the show loses you. It is when the "bahu" of the family is the reason behind the distance and the fact that she is actively trying to manipulate the good son so that she doesn't have to take care of the in-laws.

The easons to watch the show are Ronit Roy and Sangeeta Ghosh. Sangeeta portrays the emotions in scenes of turmoil and tragedy well.

But the stereotypes that inch it closer to the plot of 'Baghban' are a letdown.
