MUMBAI: The Hindi Television industry leaves no stone unturned to keep their audience entertained to the core, such that they stay hooked to their television screens, especially during the prime hours of telecasting.

From various genre-based dramas (romantic, rom-com, comedy, thriller, horror, etc.) to themed reality shows on singing, dancing, cooking, travelling, etc. the entertainment networks have always got you covered.

One such drama genre that tickles the audience's curiosity and interests at all the right places and for the right causes is the historical dramas that feature the stories of legendary personalities like politicians, debaters, mutineers and even mythological characters (this garners a lot of attention owing to ge-old norms and beliefs being displayed that are extensively practised by the majority of the Indian society till date).

However, the most important sub-category under this genre that surely grabs everybody's attention is the drama(s) based on eminent historical warriors, who had unknowingly played a critical role in shaping and re-shaping ideologies on grass-root level mutinees and protests. As these stories impart a very rich knowledge on our past and exactly how has it shaped our present and the future, their small-screen portrayal under the correct use of modern shooting infrastructure, equipments and technology (CGI, after-effects for the historical feels and more) indeed grabs the largest share of television viewership as the audience love to relive a dimension or an era they have never been to.

The most striking features of such shows, however, apart from the show's sets is it's cast-line. The selection of appropriate personalities to play the legendary warrior characters on-screen count a lot as they undergo a hell lot of trainings and transformations to keep up with the hardcore action sequences and the body-language of the kings/ princes that were strictly lived up to back in their era, which was considered as the very-determining factor for someone to be worthy of being the king or a warrior.

1. Shaheer Sheikh

Telly hunk Shaheer was highly lauded by critics and the audience (both from India and Indonesia) for playing the role of Mahabhrat's protagonist warrior 'Arjuna' in Star Plus' show Mahabharat (2013), who was the 3rd of the 5 Pandavas. From donning his brave warrior avatar to succumbing before Lord Krishna for seeking help in a hopeless situation, Shaheer beautifully nailed Arjun's character dynamics well.

He's also known to play the role of 'Prince Salim' in Colors TV's Dastaan-E-Mohabbat: Salim Anarkali. Salim's characteristics were of a brave and talented warrior who can single-handedly kill ten soldiers, while who was totally smitten by their palace's commoner girl named Anarkali. Again, Shaheer's portrayal of Salim's dynamics were on-point.  

2. Rajat Tokas

Rajat claimed fame as a child artiste when he debuted on small-screen as the famous Rajput warrior 'Prithviraj Chauhan' in Star Plus' Dharti Ka Veer Yodha - Prithviraj Chauhan. He became instantly popular for portraying this very chivalrous character on his small-screen's debut.

Watching him portraying the roles of these historic warriors for a long time now is indeed a treat for most of us to witness as it seems like he was born to do exactly these sort of roles.

3. Pankhuri Awasthy

Now moving on to the telly divas, Pankhuri was seen portraying the role of the only female ruler of the Delhi Sultanate's dynasty - 'Razia Sultan' in &TV's period drama Razia Sultan. Though brief, her role was pretty gripping for portraying that of the only female Mughal warrior.

4. Ulka Gupta

Child artiste Ulka Gupta was seen portraying the very revolutionary role of the young Indian female warrior and the epitome of feminism 'Rani Laxmi Bai' in Zee TV's Jhansi Ki Rani. As a young girl of her age, pulling-off the action sequences or even delivering the poignant expressions of the future queen with a touch of innocence with a whole-lotta determination and confidence of evading the colonials was highly appreciated by both critics and the audience. She gained instant fame for this role.

5. Vishal Aditya Singh

Chandrakanta - Ek Mayavi Prem Gaatha , who was driven by both chivalry and vengeance. His makeover, body language and facial aggression were all on-point to suit the character's rampage attitude on-screen. 

6. Sidharth Nigam

Indian television's popular Aladdin lad Sidharth is also known for portraying the role of a young 'Emperor Ashoka' in Colors TV's Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat, who was known to be the third emperor of the Mauryan dynasty of India.

7. Mohit Raina

Television's beloved Mahadev aka actor Mohit Raina played the adult version of 'Emperor Ashoka' in Colors TV's Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat. Known for his warrior-like built-body, he absolutely nailed his on-screen role as a grown-up Emperor Ashoka.

8. Shweta Basu Prasad

Her revolutionary attitude and intelligence garnered massive praises for her role's explicit on-screen delivery.
