Testing times for ALT-Balaji’s The Test Case?

The Test Case

When you open the ALT Balaji app, one show seems to stand out because it has only one episode for viewers to peruse: The Test Case.

Launched two months ago, it has stayed that way even as all episodes of other shows such as Karale Tu Bhi Mohabbat, Bewafaa Sii Wafaa, Boygiri are available.

The Test Case was announced with much pomp as it is helmed by Nagesh Kukunoor, produced under the umbrella of Endemol, and boasts a stellar cast including Nimrat Kaur, Atul Kulkarni, Juhi Chawla, Akshay Oberoi and Rahul Dev, among many more.

The show tracks a gritty female soldier, played by Nirmat, who trains herself to be on a par with other male military personnel. She fights the system, which generally looks down upon women as the weaker sex.

ALT-Balaji folks say that making just one teaser pilot episode for viewers to sample  is part of the SVOD service’s strategy to lure subscribers to come back for more. The Test Case have been shot and will be released when the timing is right- but that's not the case!

However, the spicier inside unverified gossip is that the later episodes have been stalled because of a creative spat about the direction The Test Case should take. That’s why there has been a strange silence around the show and no real buzz around it.

Wanting to dig deeper into the matter and find out what’s really happening, Tellychakkar.com called up a few sources here and there within the unit and this what we found out.  Said one of the sources: “Nagesh and Ekta’s team had a fallout when it came to the show’s treatment. While Nagesh wanted a creative approach and to shoot in his own sweet time, Ekta’s team wanted to get the work done in a speedy (read TV) way. This upset Nagesh quite a bit and he  decided to take a back seat. A new director was summoned, and the team was informed that Nagesh will only supervise but things haven’t been going all rosy as of now. There has been an endless wait for the team as they hope that the web series will get going again and Nagesh will get back.”

We also got in touch in Rahul Dev who told us that he had been informed by the team that the shoot is expected to resume soon. However, other actors were loathe to comment any further. Atul heard us out but disconnected soon thereafter. Nimrat, asked us to text our query, which went answered till the time of filing the story.

Another source in the production team further mentioned, “This project is not an usual one and will take time. It’s sad that things have got delayed so much and we have people asking when the next episode will air. As of now, we are being positive that The Test Case will somehow see the light of the day soon.”

Our efforts to get a response from the fiction content head Nimisha Pandey, Nachiket Pantvaidya, CEO of ALTBalaji and producer Deepak Dhar (Endemol) remained futile. While Nagesh's phone is switched off.

We promise to update you guys with more details soon.
