MUMBAI: The vibrant festival of Makar Sankranti is here and the Wagles from Sony SAB’s Wagle Ki Duniya celebrated the first festival of the year with much vigor and joy. The cast opened the doors of their sweet abode as they celebrated the day with authentic Maharashtrian rituals of haldi kumkum while feeding each out delicious til-gul laddu followed by the sheer joy of kite flying with the entire family. With the popular saying of – Til Gul Ghya God God Bola, the cast was thrilled to share their experience of this day.

Sumeet Raghavan aka Rajesh Wagle talking about celebrating Makar Sankranti with his Wagle family, said, “For me the biggest highlight of Makar Sankranti used to be the fun aound flying kites and competing with the kids in our block. It was a wonderful experience celebrating this day in the Wagle house. While we enjoyed the sweet delicacies and dressed up in our best, what made my day the most was flying kite after such a long time. Nothing beats the energy of watching the kite touch the sky. From preparing a kite to ensuring it flies, it’s an entire process which is truly enjoyable.”

While Pariva Paranti aka Vandana Wagle and the kids helped Sumeet fly the kite. Aanjjan Srivastav and Bharati Achrekar looked on.

Starting their celebration with a haldi kum kum ritual between the ladies Bharati and Pariva, Bharati Achrekar elaborated on this tradition and said, “On this day the daughter in law receives beautiful jewelry made out of sugar and sesame. It is mesmerizing to see how intricately they are created. Women also tend to wear black sarees on this day. There are several thoughts around this but it is a tradition that has been followed. Haldi kumkum is a very common ceremony among married women who exchange haldi (turmeric) and kumkum (vermilion powder), as a symbol of their married status and wishing for their husband’s long life.”
