Women should not give up on their dreams after marriage: Sagarika actress Ritika Seth

KOLKATA: Ritika Seth, who plays the lead role of a swimmer in the Bengali serial Sagarika, feels that a woman should not give up on her dreams after marriage.

Her character in the SUN Bangla show has just gotten married, but Sagarika is does not deviate from her dreams. Speaking about the ongoing track and the upcoming twists, Ritika said to TellyChakkar, 'Even after marriage, my character is still focused on her dreams. Now, along with my parents, my husband (Saptarshi Roy) and mother-in-law are also supporting me. My husband tells me to concentrate only on swimming. A swimming competition will take place soon, and a lot of efforts will be made to stop me from participating in it. So, the upcoming episodes will see how Rupsha (Deerghoi Paul) plans things and whether she succeeds in stopping me or not.'

So, is it easy or difficult for a woman in a middle-class family to pursue such dreams after marriage, we asked, to which she shared her view, 'It’s definitely difficult. We live in a maledominated society where many women are not able to fulfil their dreams after marriage. In fact, many are scared to pursue such dreams after marriage.'

The actress further added, 'So what if someone has gotten married? Why should one forget one’s dream? It’s difficult, but one should not give up hope. But, yes, when one gets the help of family, everything becomes easier.'

Ritika, who is a swimmer in real life and loves the butterfly stroke the most, feels that sports-based shows give hope to women who live in rural areas.

'People in rural areas watch serials the most, and many think that sports have no future for women. However, after watching this serial, they will realize that women too can dream about being a sportsperson and that sports do have future for women,' said the actress, who followed Bula Choudhury, former India national women's swimming champion, while prepping for the show.

Sagarika is Ritika’s debut serial. She did her graduation in English Honours from her hometown, Raniganj, after which she came to Kolkata to pursue theatre. The actress is excited about the upcoming episodes as it will let her don the bahu look and swimwear. 'I will get to don different avatars due to my character’s marriage and her being a swimmer,' she concluded.

Best wishes, Ritika!
