Year Ender! 5 shows that started this year but couldn’t last long 

There were many shows that went on floor this year but couldn’t last for too long and either had to go off-air or had to shift to digital platform due to low TRP.

MUMBAI:  Indian television shows have been a part of the audience's daily lives for a long time now. Over time, the type and platform of content changed a lot but people still wish to go back to television dramas and call it their comfort zone.

There were many shows that went on floor this year but couldn’t last for too long and either had to go off-air or had to shift to digital platform due to low TRP.

Here’s a list of top shows that started with high expectations, good concepts and hopeful storylines but for various reasons, had to go off-air.

1.Anandibaa Aur Emily (Star Plus)

Anandibaa Aur Emily was a comedy serial created by Vipul D. Shah, starring Jazzi Ballerini, Mishkat Varma, and Kanchan Gupta. The show premiered on 4th July.

The audience found the show really humorous and wholesome in the beginning. The show went off-air on 1st November.

The show revolved around Emily, a foreigner who got married to Aarav and became a bahu to Anandibaa, a matriarch and social leader, who is initially not receptive to the reality of her son's marriage.

Aarav has had dreams of moving to America, while Emily wanted to settle in India. Coincidentally, their paths collided and we got see whether or not Emily would meld into the stereotype of the perfect Indian family.

2.Appnapan - Badalate Rishton Ka Bandhan (Sony TV)

This show ran from 15th June to 11th November and shifted to the digital platform, Sony LIV app, for the last seven episodes, from 14th to 18th November. It was a Balaji Telefilms show that starred Cezanne Khan and Rajshree Thakur. The show really started with a lot of expectations as it showed good potential of going heavily emotional.

According to the storyline, Pallavi and Nikhil are a divorced couple and after their separation, they raised their children alone. Harsh and Manna are raised by Nikhil while Barkha, Gangan and Badal are raised by Pallavi. However, despite their best efforts, there’s always a lack of the other parent in their children's lives. Fifteen years later, the two families meet. Initially they are at loggerheads, but eventually their misunderstandings are clarified and they reunite.

After a lot of ups and downs, the couple decides to remarry on Nikhil's mother and children's persuasion, but their happiness is short-lived as Pallavi's cousin Sonali enters the story and ruins the situation between them. As it turns out, Sonali was the cause of Nikhil and Pallavi's separation. She manipulates Pallavi and marries Nikhil.

3.Jagannath Aur Purvi Ki Dosti Anokhi (Sony TV)

The Katha Kottage Production show Jagannath Aur Purvi Ki Dosti Anokhi, also known as Dosti Anokhi, featured Ishmeet Kohli, Rajendra Gupta, and Sushmita Mukherjee in the lead roles and aired from 7th February to 10th June.

The story is about an older couple, Pandit Jagannath and Kusum Mishra, and a girl named Purvi Singh, and their story after the old couple’s son, daughter-in-law, and daughter have left them alone. It starts with the 72-year-old Jagannath saving Poorvi's life and bringing her to his house.

4.Kabhi Kabhie Ittefaq Sey (Star Plus)

The show premiered on 3rd January and went off-air on 20th August. It was a Hindi adaptation of Bengali serial ‘Khorkuto’. The show starred Yesha Rughani and Manan Joshi as leads.

The story was really interesting in the beginning but gradually failed to impress the audience with twists and turns. According to the storyline, the leads got connected initially by their families. Later, through a helpless situation, they are forced to break up and later on Anubhav and Gungun want to get connected. But Anubhav is married to Akriti, who is Gungun’s cousin.

5.Yeh Jhuki Jhuki Si Nazar(Star Plus)

Yeh Jhuki Jhuki Si Nazar premiered on 7th March. The series ended on 25 June. It stars Swati Rajput and Ankit Siwach and it is a remake of Malayalam series Karuthamuthu.

The story starts with Diya Mathur, 32 and single, a topper in hotel management who gets humiliated and rejected for her dark complexion. 

However, things change for her when she meets Armaan in a hotel, who befriends her.

Later Armaan's mother comes to Diya's house for alliance but chooses Diya’s sister instead as her as she is fair-skinned and beautiful.

Diya and Armaan keep meeting and falling in love with each other. Armaan’s sister, Bhavna gets to know about Armaan’s feelings for Diya. Sudha and Bhavna plan against the couple to separate them by creating a misunderstanding that Diya doesn't like Armaan.

After a lot of struggles, Armaan and Diya get married.

After the marriage, Bhavna instigates Sudha’s mind against Diya. Sudha gets manipulated and tries to show Diya her place.

The show started with a potential to spread a strong social message but ended up as a typical saas-bahu story.
