Exclusive! Mujib actor Abeer Soofi "Feels like being a part of history" as he plays the role of Ashok Tara in the first government produced movie, read to know more

Abeer Soofi plays an important part in the movie as Ashok Tara. We got in touch with the actor where he revealed a lot of things about the movie, his character and much more.

MUMBAI: Mujib: The Making of a Nation, is a movie that's the result of a union of NFDC and BFDC. The movie is already released in Bangladesh and is set for a worldwide release on 27th October. The movie is directed by Shyam Benegal and stars Arifin Shuvoo. This movie is marked as the first government produced movie, which was produced on the occasion of Mujib Year.

As an interesting fact, actors Arifin Shuvoo, Nusrat Imrose Tisha and Zayed Khan has taken only ৳1 as charges for acting. Bangabandhu's daughter, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, commented about the film saying that the film will be accepted as a milestone in the Bangladeshi cinema history.

Talking about the cast of the movie, there’s Abeer Soofi playing an important part in the movie as Ashok Tara. The actor is majorly known for his role as Sai Baba in the Sony TV show Mere Sai.

We got in touch with the actor where he revealed a lot of things about the movie, his character and much more.

Tell us about the movie.

Giving details to us about the movie Mujib: The Making Of A Nation, Abeer said that the movie is produced by NFDC and BFDC, that is, National Film Development Corporation and Bangladesh Film Development Corporation respectively. It's a joint venture of India and Bangladesh. The budget of the movie has come close to 150cr. The character of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is played by Arifin Shuvoo. It’s directed by Mr. Shyam Benegal, associate director is Dayal Nihalani. The casting is done by Shyam Rawat and Satish Sharma.

Abeer added that the casting is so accurate that if you go to Youtube and search for the people in the movie, the actors who are chosen for those parts are exactly the same look wise.

Further disclosing the details he said that the film is written by Shama Zaidi, who is a veteran writer and even Atul Tiwari is the writer. All the theatres in Bangladesh were housefull. It’s a biopic about Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who is the father of  the nation for Bangladesh. The film was shot in both India and Bangladesh. The trailer was launched at the Cannes International Film Festival and its first screening was in the Toronto International Film Festival.

What made you say yes to the character?

Talking about the character, Abeer Soofi said that he is playing the role of Ashok Tara who was Major in the Indian Army, who is still alive. He mentioned that the character is not long but is very important. Mentioning that Shyam Benegal is one of the most senior directors in India, Abeer expressed how happy he is to get a chance to work with Shyam Benegal. Stating the importance of the character, Abeer said that when Sheikh Hasina was captured, it was Major Ashok Tara who had saved her and till now, on that same date every year, Sheikh Hasina calls Ashok Tara to thank him.

Mentioning an important fact about the movie, Abeer Soofi said that just how the Statue Of Liberty was a gift, this movie is a gift from India to Bangladesh.

How do you feel about the movie going for Cannes for a trailer release and then going to the Toronto international film festival for screening?

Abeer expressed how he feels by saying that he feels lucky being a part of this movie and that he feels he made history come alive by being a part of it. He also mentioned how the audience was thankful for the movie and the Prime Minister of Bangladesh had come to India to appreciate the movie.
