MUMBAI: TV shows have become an essential part of our lives. Our day starts with it and ends with it. With a rise in the number of viewership over the years, the makers are treating the viewers with a variety of shows in different genres which mainly consist of drama.  

While some last for many years, some don't. However, Indian television has witnessed many legendary TV shows which managed to successfully run on the small screen for several years.

So, here's a list of 12 longest-running TV shows which had a successful run on the small screens:

1. Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 

Ekta Kapoor's popular hit drama series had a successful run of 8 years on the small screen completed a whopping 1833 episodes. The show started airing on 3rd July 2000 and ended on a grand note on 6th November 2008. 

2. Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki 

Another hit TV series by Ekta Kapoor managed to grab all the viewership till the show aired its last episode. The show aired 1661 episodes in the span of 8 years. The show started airing on 16th October 2000 and ended on 9th October 2008. 

3. Kasauti Zindagi Kay 

Ekta Kapoor was on a roll with her yet another popular which became everyone's hot favourite. The show completed 1423 episodes and had a successful run of 7 years. The daily soap aired from29th October 2001 to 28th February 2008.

4. Sasural Simar Ka 

The beautiful story of two sisters Simar and Roli became an instant hit among the viewers. This is one of the longest-running shows of the small screen with a whopping 2063 episodes. Sasural Simar Ka started on 25th April 2011 and ended on 2nd March 2008.

5. Balika Vadhu 

The social drama had a deep impact on the viewers and gained maximum attention. Balika Vadhu aired from 21st July 2008 to 31st July 2016 after completing 2245 episodes. It had a great 8 years of run on the television. 

6. Saath Nibhana Saathiya 

This is another hit drama series which made the way to audiences' heart with its entertaining content. The daily soap aired from 3rd May 2010 and ended on 23rd July 2017. It had a good run for 7 years and completed 2184 episodes.

7. Uttaran 

Rashami Desai and Tinaa Dutta became a household name after this show. The daily soap was always high on drama keeping the viewers entertained for several years. Uttaran complete 1549 episodes after successfully running for 7 years. The show aired from 1st December 2008 to 16th January 2015.

While the above shows have gone off-air but there are many shows in today's times which are running for several years. 

Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai has been running successfully for 11 years. The show started on 12th January 2009 and is still going strong. Till now, it has completed 3134 episodes. 

Another show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma is also leading as it is also running on the small screens since the past 12 years. The hit sitcom started airing from 28th July 2008 and has completed 2953 episodes.
