It is known that it’s a real difficult task to make people laugh than to make them cry. While other channels have long running soaps that are tearjerkers, SAB TV tries its best to bring mirth in the lives of people. Anooj Kapoor, EVP and Business Head of SAB TV, has been instrumental in taking the channel to a level that is beyond people’s imagination. In a candid conversation with Tellychakkar.com, he shared the reasons as to why Bhai Bhaiya Aur Brother didn’t work, “Well, talking about Bhai Bhaiya Aur Brother, the issue was the time slot. After all, with some good shows on other GECs in the 8 pm slot, audiences couldn’t connect with it. Even then, we decided to make few variations in the show but it still didn’t work. And then we pulled it off because we didn’t want to stretch it any further. One can see that I Luv My India which was also slotted at 8 pm also didn’t pick up. And now Bhai Bhaiya…At times, audiences just don’t connect.” Anooj continued, “We are again coming up with another project Golmaal Hai Bhai Sab Golmaal Hai on this slot as people know this show well, it being a sequel of Sajan Re Jhoot Mat Bolo. They are likely to connect. I can say that we have taken a safe side as far as this serial is concerned. We hope this show creates a mark in the 8 pm slot.” This week also the channel is at number five on the TRP chart! “Yes, this time too SAB is in the fifth number. The reason remains the same that we have low budget shows and our reach as compared to other GECs is low. The top four GECs have a lot of investment behind them, but even with less of investment, we still have long running shows like Taarak Mehta…” “On the other hand, Chidiya Ghar that is doing well in the 9 pm slot has garnered a TRP of 1.8. What is amazing to note is that the show is still fetching good numbers despite being pitted against soaps like like Pavitra Rishta on Zee TV and Diya Aur Baati Hum on Star Plus in the same time.” Moving on, Movers and Shakers didn’t do too well? “A decade ago, Movers and Shakers made a name as the best among standup comedy shows. Alas, the era has changed. Now we see two or more performers offering gags in such shows. The time slot was also a hindering block as the audiences didn’t want to watch it.” Indeed we can say that SABTV has the best of shows despite its low budget. In spite of its minimal reach, it still remains at the number five position. Kudos to the SAB TV team!!!
