MUMBAI:Piyush Gupta has directed Tarla Dalal’s biopic titled Tarla which stars Huma Qureshi in the titular role. The movie also stars Sharib Hashmi in the lead role, and he will be seen portraying the role of Tarla Dalal’s husband in the movie.

TellyChakkar recently interacted with Piyush and when we asked him how he got the story and what research he did for the project, the filmmaker said, “I and my wife were having a conversation about how India doesn’t have a solid food film. So, it started from there and she ended up saying that what about Tarla Dalal? I was like let’s see, I don’t know. But, she just fixed up a meeting with her son Sanjay Dalal. I met him, but I was very skeptical in the sense that what will be her story, just about cooking food. However, he (Sanjay) told me that when she died a lot of women across the country wrote letters to her. So, that got me very curious that what were those letters about.”

“He (Sanjay) said that in the letters a lot of people gave her the credit to change their lives because through her recipes they were able to convince people to do things that they wanted to do. Suddenly, when I heard that I was like this is a story that is so beautiful and hidden because she means so much to so many women and I had no clue about it. We were thinking that women were only watching her to learn how to cook, but they were actually watching to convince others to do the things they really aspired to do. There’s a line in the film, ‘ghar ke bahar ke raaste kitchen ki khidki se bhi nikal sakta hai’.”

While we have seen many biopics, it will surely be interesting to watch a biopic on a chef.

Tarla will premiere on Zee5 on 7th July 2023.
