MUMBAI:   Comedian Navin Prabhakar has been tickling the funny bone of audiences for a long time with a variety of shows. He is most known for his Pehchan Kaun act on The Great Indian Laughter Challenge. Subsequently, he hosted a mimicry and stand-up show Hello Kaun? Pehchaan Kaun.

Prabhakar has given voiceover in films including Mohabbat Ho Gayi Hai Tumse, Maine Dil Tujhko Diya, Nehle Pe Dehla, Champion and Ara Ara Aaba, Aata Tari Thamba. He did the voiceover for the song "Dhagala Lagli Kala". He has also sung in Adnan Sami's song "Lift Karade" (Remix) as a voiceover artist. Albums that were further released were Chor Chor, Spicy Mango, Jalwa Part II, Saangu and Naka.

TellyChakkar got in touch with the actor to talk about his stand-up journey and more.

Your movie that released in the theaters a while back is now finally releasing on an OTT platform, it must be a little exciting for you?

Not a little, it's very exciting. The movie was made, it was released, I got to work with some really big actors. Nowadays, making a film, is not that hard but rather getting people interested enough to go to the theaters is the hard part. To get that appreciation and critical acclaim for the film is a big deal and when that movie comes out on an OTT platform, that makes it all the better. With this movie Aapdi Thaapdi, we got such an overwhelming response and appreciation from the people around us for the choice of this subject, because it is a sensitive and a really beautiful story that people could connect to it.

How was the experience of turning into an actor from the role of a comedian and sharing that space with actor-comedian Shreyas Talpade?

Shreyas is one of the best actors and he is a dear friend. I am one of his biggest fans. Acting with Shreyas is an achievement in itself, especially when you take someone who has a comedic persona in the public and offers him something in the negative spectrum. It is a very big responsibility, so I worked on this character with the help of the director and by understanding his point of view and what I as Navin Prabhakar can add to it was my main focus.

There was a time when people considered comedy very scary, they still reach out but it has become more accessible, would you guys ever take credit that it was your batch that made comedy mainstream?

After Hathrasi Ji, and all the extremely great comedians that we have seen, I feel grateful that I could see them, be in their presence, meet them and talk to great artists like Johnny Walker sir and Mehmood Bhai, who Johnny Lever sir made me to speak to. I have been very grateful to have worked with Johnny Lever for 6 years on live stage and I was always very impressed by Mr. Bachchan’s voice. He gave me some tips, so the combination and amalgamation of all these experiences have led us somewhere. One cannot really take credit, it is the experiences that make someone something.

The movie Aapdi Thaapdi is a Marathi movie starring Shreyas Talpade, Mukta Barve, Nandu Madhav and Sandeep Pathak as lead characters and is directed by Anand Karir.
