PM Narendra Modi and others condole death of SP Balasubrahmanyam

MUMBAI: Veteran playback singer SP Balasubrahmanyam passed away today. He was 74. His son SP Charan confirmed that he left for his heavenly abode and thanked the hospital authorities for their service. After his health deteriorated on August 5, he was admitted to MGM Healthcare in Chennai. He tested positive for COVID-2019 and succumbed to a cardio-respiratory arrest today.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi mourned the loss of the veteran singer and expressed that with his unfortunate demise, the ‘cultural world is a lot poorer’.

PM Modi’s tweet read, “With the unfortunate demise of Shri SP Balasubrahmanyam, our cultural world is a lot poorer. A household name across India, his melodious voice and music enthralled audiences for decades. In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with his family and admirers. Om Shanti.”

President Ram Nath Kovind also took to his Twitter handle and mourned the passing away of the ‘Paadum Nila’. The President’s tweet read, “In the passing of music legend SP Balasubrahmanyam Indian music has lost one of its most melodious voices. Called ‘Paadum Nila' or ‘Singing Moon’ by his countless fans, he was honoured with Padma Bhushan and many National Awards. Condolences to his family, friends and admirers.”
