MUMBAI: Shabana Azmi is one of the most popular actresses. She is known for her power-packed performance.

The veteran actress has been part of myriad critically acclaimed films and won over the hearts of the viewers with her performance. Check out some lesser-known facts about her.

She was born on September 18, 1950. Shabana was born in the house of famous poet Kaifi Azmi and her brother Baba Azmi is a cinematographer. Shabana Azmi spent her childhood in an artistic atmosphere. Her mother was theatre actor Shaukat Azmi. Shabana inherited acting talent from her mother. Shabana started her career in Hindi films by giving a positive twist. She came from a traditional Muslim family but still entered the film world and nailed every character she portrayed.

Shabana Azmi's mother Shaukat Azmi breathed her last on 22nd November 2019. In 2005, she wrote an autobiography and wrote about Shabana. She wrote, "Shabana thought I loved Baba (Shabana's younger brother) more than her. One morning I was having breakfast with Shabana (9) and Baba (6). I picked up a toast from Shabana's plate and said, ‘Daughter, Baba's bus will come soon, so I am giving him your toast.’ You have time now. I sent Alice (servant) to get some bread and Shabana quietly left the breakfast table. When Alice returned, I called Shabana saying, ‘Daughter, come, your toast is ready.’ I heard her crying from the bathroom and ran there. She saw me and quickly wiped her tears and went to school."

Shabana reportedly tried to come in front of the train at Grant Road railway station, however, luckily she survived.

Not many are aware that Shabana sold cold brew coffee at a petrol station for three months before taking admission in college after passing first division in senior Cambridge. Due to this, she used to get 30 rupees per day. At the same time, Shabana was in a relationship with director Shekhar Kapur and both of them had a breakup with mutual consent. Now Shabana is the second wife of Javed Akhtar.
