Nawazuddin is going places now. The actor who was recently christened as India's finest actor by a leading international men's magazine is on cloud nine and understandably so. He was also seen sharing the image of the delectable cover on his personal Facebook profile too. On the professional front, Nawaz's movies continue to make waves. Jar Pictures next, Liar's Dice starring Nawazzuddin in lead role, has now been selected in the competition category at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival. This film will be featured in the "World Cinema Dramatic Competition." After Peepli Live, Liar's Dice is the only Indian film to be selected in the competition category in Sundance Film Festival, one of the largest independent film festivals in the United States, held from January 16 -26, 2014 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Liar's Dice also marks the directorial debut of Malayalam actress Geetu Mohandas. The popular actress-turned-director sounded elated at this development. “I am thrilled about Sundance. Even though we worked in the most difficult terrain, the shooting experience was very enjoyable. Sundance is an added feather in the Liar’s Dice experience for all of us.” Divulging on the plot of the film, Geetu reveals, “The film tells a story of a young mother from a tribal community who along with her 3-year-old daughter embarks on a journey leaving her native land in search of her missing husband and encounters an army deserter who decides to accompany them to their destination. The travel story stretching from a small village, Chitkul on the Indo-Tibet border to the industrial city Delhi is set against the alarming backdrop of the socio-political conditions of India where millions of labourers go missing and are considered just a number in government records.” Interestingly, Alan McAlex who co-produced the film with Ajay G Rai for their banner, Jar Pictures was also associated with Peepli Live. “I was the line producer on Peepli Live which went in Sundance in the competition category in 2010 and it’s great to be back in the prestigious festival this time as a producer of Liar’s Diceand competing with world's best movies,” says Alan. The film has been shot by ace cinematographer Rajeev Rai of Chandni Bar, Dev D, Gangs of Wasseypur 1 & 2, Monsoon Shootout fame.
