MUMBAI:  Yesterday, there were reports that Mahesh Babu’s father Krishna has been hospitalized as he suffered from a heart attack. This morning, we woke up with the sad news that he has passed away. Today’s generation will know him as Mahesh Babu’s father, but not many would know that he was an actor, producer, director, and politician.

Krishna made his debut with the Telugu film Thene Manasulu in 1965. By 1974, he had done 100 movies and by 1982 he had starred in 200 movies. He has been a part of more than 300 movies, and his last release was the 2016 release Sri Sri. In 2009, he was honored with Padma Bhushan for his contribution to Indian cinema.

He was one of the most multi-talented personalities in Telugu cinema. Krishna made his directorial debut with the 1986 release Simhasanam. He not only directed the film, but also wrote, acted, produced, and edited it.

While many actors would only pair up with an actress for just a few films, Krishna had teamed up with Vijaya Nirmala for more than 48 movies, and with Jaya Prada for 47 films. Moviegoers seemed to love his pairing with these two actresses.

Mahesh Babu started his career as a child actor and was seen in many films of his father like Poratam, Sankharavam, Mugguru Kodukulu, and others. When Mahesh made his debut as a hero with the 1999 release Raja Kumarudu, Krishna had done a cameo in it.
