Actor Vidya Balan has opened up on playing Silk Smitha in the 2011 film The Dirty Picture. Speaking at the 54th International Film Festival of India in Goa, Vidya recalled her reaction when she was told that the film will ruin her career.

On the occasion of Silk’s birth anniversary on 2nd December, she made this announcement of the film titled ‘Silk Smitha, The Untold Story’

Vidya claimed that women still lack the confidence to handle their finances on their own and frequently give their husbands their paychecks in order to avoid putting themselves in a vulnerable position. She also lauded the security of her husband, film producer Siddharth Roy Kapur.

Beginning her acting career as a supporting role model, Silk Smitha initially came to public attention in 1979 for her outstanding performance in the Tamil film Vandichakkaram.Silk Smitha worked for 17 years and made appearances in over 450 films.
