When he was in the Bigg Boss house, he was himself. He flirted with the women, made some candid on-camera confessions and generally went about his business very naturally. But what the unsuspecting audiences didn’t realise was he had ‘scripted’ this entire drama so intelligently that it was meant to titillate and attract attention. There was no chance he would go unnoticed despite the presence of many other so-called celebs like him on that show. When she participated in Rahul Dulhania Le Jayenge she too wowed audiences much in the same way. Throughout the show she flashed that innocent smile at the camera ever so often, danced to seductive numbers and bared all her past affairs all on national television. Both of them – Dimpy and Rahul Mahajan -- in their own way are masters at the game. The Mahajan boy is a pro at giving sound-bytes and having the spotlight firmly on him. His better half is too quite adept at this and doesn’t trail far behind. For most of this week Rahul and Dimpy played to the gallery once again and how! Almost all news channels played out their on-going real-life story. Dimpy moves out of marital home, she goes to media, hitches up her skirt and bares her bruises, Rahul says all is well and gets her back home. The couple makes their way to a local temple to pray together with the media in attendance! The publicity they have garnered as of now seems to be enough for the two till they return with some more drama. Whatever Rahul-Dimpy ‘achieve’ in the entire lifetime, one thing is for sure they will never get the same attention. Well played guys! Rahul loves reality shows and Dimpy is a wannabe actress. Whatever be the cost they have managed to stay in the news. And voyeurs stayed glued to their TV sets whilst this mega drama played out. And why not? It had all the ingredients of a C-grade soap! There was tragedy, there was violence, there was love turned sour, there was jealousy and not to forget the bechara ladki ka baap. But what went unnoticed amidst all this high drama was some superb singing by the Chhote Ustaads, some great talent display on India’s Got Talent and some brilliant dancing by the hugely gifted kids on Dance India Dance. And despite the fact that these shows have been so well scripted and marketed they failed to get the same attention as the Mahajans. And what the heck Rahul and Dimpy did all this without a publicist or a celeb manager. They did it single handedly all by themselves. They not only had the electronic media on attention, newspapers used reams of print while the web world went into a tizzy. We can only say this entire episode has left a bitter taste in the mouth of all those who perhaps witnessed their farce of a wedding on national television. Read more...
