Comedy isn’t easy: Shamin Mannan

MUMBAI: Shamin Mannan will soon be seen on the telly in a brand new show titled "Ram Pyaare Sirf Humare". Though the actress's upcoming show is a comedy, she says the genre is not easy as it takes a lot of efforts to make people laugh.

"Comedy isn’t easy, it takes a lot to make people laugh and you need to have that kind of comic timing and flow of the character.  There is a thin line in the comedy of whether people will laugh or people will get irritated, so that line shouldn’t be crossed," she said.

Her upcoming show "Ram Pyaare Sirf Humare" is about a married couple Ram and Dulari and how Koel befriends them only to get her hands on Ram. The actress will play the role of Koel in the show and said that it will act like a stress-buster for the audience during these tough times.  "Zee TV is coming up with a full-on comedy show after long. It is a character-based comedy drama with lots of interesting twists and turns. It's stressful with whatever is going around in 2020, and this show will be a wonderful respite from that stress. And you will definitely fall in love with all the characters," she said.

"It’s loosely based on the lines of pati patni and woh, where I play the ‘woh’- Koyal. This character is a very interesting character, she is alluring with different shades, a go-getter, sharp, spicy and it’s one of a kind of character which I never played before. This role is quite challenging, which is what I as an actor always look for," she added.  Shamin has been part of shows like "Sanskaar - Dharohar Apnon Ki" and "Kasam Tere Pyaar Ki". She shared that her character Bhoomi, in the former show, is closest to her, and revealed that her journey in showbiz has been a "roller-coaster ride".

She said, "It’s been a roller-coaster ride, no doubt. From no acting background or any professional training, I directly landed on the sets of a tv show, very young, shy and naive. And then I trained myself as an actor with theatre workshops and self-training and gained the confidence to deal with people and the industry. But I still somehow feel I have not even achieved 10 percent of my dreams. There is a long way to go and I am all set for it. Though I have played different characters, I would love to explore the web genre and of course films. I have set a lot of goals to be true."

Asked if she has an acting hero, she took the names of Shahrukh Khan and late Irrfan Khan and said, "SRK because he is what he is, he is one of the biggest inspiration for me to become an actor. I am a die-hard fan. And Irrfan Khan because of his flawless and spontaneous acting performances. I watch his films in awe. He is so natural. Both SRK and Irrfan Khan started with television which is a great motivation in itself."

She also mentioned that she loves the process of acting, and added, "Right from the beginning of building a character to performing and making it come alive on screen and everything in between this process. Also as an actor, I can live so many lives in one lifetime."

As an audience, Shamin loves to watch sitcoms, mystery-thrillers and sci-fi genres. She further revealed, "I love watching movies and web series alot. So I binge watch almost anything good that comes online. Shows like 'Dark', 'Aarya', 'Mirzapur', to name a few. Last I binged an old series called 'True Detective'."
