I see dubbing as a 'breathing space' inside the actor in me: Prasad Barve

Prasad Barve

Prasad Barve, who has shows like Shree, Dill Mill Gayye Season 2, Pritam Pyaare Aur Woh and Mrs. Pammi Pyarelal to his credit is ecstatic as he has gotten the chance to lend his voice in the third edition of Kung Fu Panda series in Hindi.

For Prasad, this is the third time that he will be lending his voice to the popular character Po in the series (after dubbing for Editions 1 and 2). With the third edition all set to release in theatres nationwide on 1 April, Prasad is hopeful of getting a good response.

In addition to being an actor, Prasad has had an illustrious dubbing career wherein he has dubbed for the Hindi version of many popular Hollywood movies.

Sharing his experience of dubbing for Po, Barve told us, “I have been very lucky to have got good Hollywood projects for dubbing. Kung Fu Panda has been special for me, as I have been offered the very famous character of Po to dub for. And I have literally lived the character, having dubbed for it in all the three seasons. The best part for me is to reproduce the same dialogues in Hindi that the famous Jade Black has spoken in English. He gives so many variations to the character; and the fact that he can speak a line in different styles makes him huge. And to try and match his standard has always been a challenge for me.”

Talking about the market prevailing for languages, Barve averred, “We only talk about cities like Mumbai, Delhi who watch Hollywood movies. However, the people in small cities usually prefer to watch Hollywood movies in Hindi. And such dubbed films cater to this large audience. Nowadays, every other Hollywood movie gets dubbed in Hindi, and there is a lot of market for the movies.”

The actor further speaking about his passion for dubbing said “Both acting and dubbing go hand in hand for me. When I am acting, the dubbing calibre in me helps me. And when I am dubbing, the actor in me helps me. There are people who think of dubbing when they are not acting. However, I have never seen it like that. I give equal importance to both, and in fact see dubbing as the breathing space inside the actor in me.”

When asked about his comeback to daily soap space in TV, Barve explained, “Yes, I am in talks for few projects. I had a few in hand too, but did not find them challenging. After my experience being part of Fakebook with Kavita, I am looking at exploring more into the stand-up genre. I am desperately looking to get into that zone of work, and will love to be part of The Kapil Sharma Show on Sony TV.”

Prasad, we wish you all the luck for your future!!
