TV producer-director Swapna Waghmare Joshi, who has many successful TV shows to her credit has now turned film director. Swapna’s maiden film is titled Ishq Unplugged and stars Himesh Reshamiya, Sonal Sehgal and Purbi Joshi. A Studio 18 project the film is slated to release soon. Talking about her big screen debut, Swapna says, “Ishq Unplugged is a slice of life story. It could be said that it’s somewhat like a Hrishikesh Mukherjee film. As for working with Himesh and the rest of the cast, it was a good experience. I must confess initially I was reluctant to work with Himesh because of his reputation as an angry young man. But once we began he was so much fun and revealed his unknown funny side, which not many people are aware of. Moreover he completely surrendered himself to me and I could mould him like clay. I never thought it would be such a delightful experience. Even Sonal and Purbi were a pleasure to work with.” Interestingly Swapna had directed Sonal for the Star One show, Hotel Kingston.
So will TV now take a back seat? “No way! I love TV. It can never take a back seat. I am very passionate about this medium, I will never give it up.”
Swapna’s current show on TV is Rang Badalti Odhani, which is the number 2 show on Star One.
Here’s hoping, her film innings are just as fruitful.
