He's been a model earlier, but now Gurpreet Singh will sport a new nose for his latest assignment as Sujal of Kahiin To Hoga.
Currently recuperating from the nose surgery he underwent on Saturday, Gurpreet says the channel and production house had him go through the operation to make him sport a look closer to the one of Rajeev Khandelwal, the outgoing Sujal. For those who came in late, Rajeev after much heartburn and soul searching, has quit the show and is on his way out from the serial. Gurpreet, who auditioned and was selected as the replacement, is equally good looking and has modeled for ads like VIP Frenchie, Haywards, Digjam and a music video by Abhijit Pohankar, and is also acting in two films - Madhubala and Bhay, both directed by Shivram Yadav. Incidentally, Gurpreet had also auditioned for a role in Sony's Kaisa Yeh Pyaar Hai, a role that finally did not work out.
As Sujal, Gurpreet has a lot to live upto, however. Rajeev commanded a formidable fan following, both in India and overseas, with many viewers insisting that they stayed up for the 11 pm show just to catch him. Gurpreet says the channel and production house Balaji Telefilms found his nose a mite sharp for the role and had it 'set right' during a two hour operation at the Elizabeth Nursing Home in Walkeshwar in south Mumbai on Saturday.
Gurpreet, who will commence shooting as Sujal on 25 May, says he doesn't know many people in Balaji Telefilms, but that an executive producer from the company has been to see him over the weekend. Gurpreet expects to be home in his Lokhandwala complex apartment by Monday evening after the doctors give him a clean chit this afternoon.
After the nose job, Gurpreet, we hear, will also be given a new hairstyle, and a complete makeover. Ekta Kapoor has chosen Gurpreet for his resemblance to Rajeev, and now seems to be making efforts to get him to look even more like him.
