Whoever feels I can come at the rate of a newcomer is completely wrong: Amar Upadhyay

Amar Upadhyay
Amar Upadhyay better known for his role of Mihir in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi is open to taking up work on TV post his stint in Life OK’s Savdhan India , but he believes that the television scenario has changed drastically in the past few years. “This change came in 2008 when the channels started roping in new faces. This was called the television recession phase. But then came Bade Achhe Lagte Hai and everybody realized that a Ram Kapoor and Sakshi Tanwar can still work with the audiences and they started roping in known faces. Even now most of them do not want to shell out money. They want actors as per their budget and they end up compromising on talent,” says the actor. In fact, he goes on to narrate a recent incident, “I was offered an interesting role on one of the well known GECs but the discussion halted at the budget. I am not desperate for work and I have alternative career options as I am an Engineer. Hence anyone who thinks Amar Upadhyay can come at the rate of a new comer they are completely wrong, that’s not happening.” Talking about his alternative career option he further went on to aver, “Acting is an insecure profession, hence it’s always good to have an alternative. I have been lucky to be an Engineer which helps open many avenues for me. That is why I do not mind taking up any reality show as it will last for three month maximum. But when it comes to a daily soap I need to be happy with everything in it as I wouldn’t want to be working in an unhappy situation for 25 days a month for two or three years.” Comparing the scenario of TV with films he stated, “In films the directors or the producers do not look at the budget of an actor. Instead if they want an actor they go out of their way to rope him in. That’s what lacks here. In fact a lot of actors give in to TV working condition and I completely respect their decision.” So what sort of roles will Amar want to take up next? “I am looking forward to playing a grey shade next.” We wish you luck, Amar.
