Chhalaang review: This Rajkumar Rao starrer is an average sports drama

Hansal Mehta’s Chhalaang has premiered, and here is the full review of the movie.

MUMBAI: Due to the covid outbreak and the subsequent lockdown, the only source of entertainment for the audience was OTT. Several web series and a few films premiered online and impressed all of us with the content and superb performances.

Here comes the another film that was earlier scheduled for a theatrical release. Chhalaang is directed by Hansal Mehta, who recently grabbed all the headlines for his web show Scam 1992 – The Harshad Mehta Story.

This movie stars Rajkummar Rao, Nushrat Bharucha, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Satish Kaushik, Saurabh Shukla, Jatin Sarna, Ila Arun, and others.

The movie talks about a normal sports teacher, who for the sake of his job at the school and respect for his love interest, challenges a new sports teacher, and the difficulties he has to face in the process. Whether he will win or not is something we will witness in the movie. It highlights the challenges we face in life and how we should not fear them. The concept is good but the execution is lacking in many ways.

The screenplay is average, and there are a few points and moments where you may not feel connected to the movie and start to feel bored. However, the performances of the leads do grab your attention, and the direction by Hansal Mehta is decent.

Talking about the performances, Rajkumar Rao is too good in the movie and is one of the saving factors. Nushrat is decent, but it was Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub who was a treat to watch. He manages to grab your eyeballs whenever he is on screen. The other cast like Satish Kaushik, Saurabh Shukla, Jatin Sarna, and Ila Arun do justice to their parts.

The positive points are the concept, which is brilliant. It teaches us not to give up without even trying. The performances of the leads are good, and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub is a visual delight.

The negative points of the movie are the screenplay. Its execution lacks in many ways, making you feel disconnected from the film.

Overall, Chhalaang is an average, one-time watch to be seen with the complete family this Diwali.

Team TellyChakkar goes with 2.5 stars for Chhalaang.
