Ram-Leela wins legal battle against NGO

Ram-Leela
Sanjay Leela Bhansali can breathe easy for the moment. The Delhi High Court today dismissed a public interest litigation filed by an NGO called Rashtravadi Shiv Sena seeking to ban the release of Ram-Leela. The plea which was filed by the NGO's president Jai Bhagwan Goyal said that the title `Ram-Leela' which is understood by Hindus as an enactment of the life and story of Lord Ram (Maryada Purshottam), is nowhere doing the same but on the contrary the film is portraying sex, violence and vulgarity, which is deeply hurting the religious sentiments and feelings of Hindus. The NGO’s plea further added that the enactment, production and scheduled release of the film Ram-Leela is a gross insult to the religious feelings of Hindus. It was also averred in the plea that the objection is only in respect of naming such a film Ram-Leela and not about anything else. However, the division bench of the Delhi High Court headed by Chief Justice N.V. Ramana, not only refused to entertain the plea but also imposed a fine of Rs. 50,000 on the NGO. Ram-Leela is all set to be released in India on 15 November (2013). The sizzling chemistry of Ranveer and Deepika has already created a huge buzz for Sanjay Leela Bhasali’s latest magnum opus
