MUMBAI: With just two wins from their first seven games in IPL 2025, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) find themselves in a tough spot as the playoff race heats up. After an impressive 2024 season, where they finished second in the league stage with eight victories and eventually reached the final—only to fall to Kolkata Knight Riders—SRH’s current form is a sharp contrast. Now placed ninth on the points table, just above Chennai Super Kings, SRH’s playoff hopes appear bleak.

Cricket analysts Cheteshwar Pujara, Sanjay Bangar, and Abhinav Mukund have already voiced their belief that SRH’s playoff journey is effectively over. However, mathematically, SRH still have a shot. Historically, eight wins (16 points) almost always secure a playoff berth in the IPL, and in some cases, even 14 points have been enough—provided a strong Net Run Rate (NRR) backs it.
SRH can still turn their campaign around. If they win six of their remaining seven games, they’re likely to qualify. Even five victories could suffice if the playoff race gets congested and their NRR, currently a concerning -1.217, improves significantly.
Last season, Royal Challengers Bengaluru reached the playoffs with 14 points by winning six straight games—something SRH will hope to replicate.
