Popular TV actor Sharad Kelkar is on cloud nine these days after having played a pivotal role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s musical magnum opus Ram-Leela. Sharad still cannot believe that he got a chance to work with a director like Sanjay Leela Bhansali who tops the wish list of every actor in this country. “Sanjay sir is an institution in himself. His eye for detail is unmatched. The passion with which he explains and directs his scene, you just can’t go wrong. He inevitably ends up getting the best out of every actor. It was an honour working with a person like him. And yes, I had to audition for the role,” says Sanjay. For someone who has the reputation of being a taskmaster on sets with his actors, Sharad didn’t find Sanjay strict at all. “He is not a strict disciplinarian as he is made out to be. Yes he is professional but also a good person that one can gel well with. I didn’t find him a tough task master at all.” Sharad who plays Deepika’s elder brother is all praise for the beautiful actress. “Deepika is a very good natured actress. It was a delight working with a top star like her,” says Sharad. Throwing more light on his character Sharad elaborates, “I play this possessive elder brother of Deepika who becomes furious on finding out that his sister is being chased by Ranveer who is from the rival clan.” When asked if one would get to see him bashing up Ranveer in the movie for pursuing Deepika, Sharad laughs and says, “Arre nahi nahi. There are no fight sequences between us.” Sharad also singles out his co-star Richa Chadda for some extra praise. “I would like to say that Richa is the most professional actress I have worked with till date. Her easy going nature and cool attitude makes it easier to strike a rapport with her on sets.” Sharad, who plays Richa’s husband in the movie, however blushed when we asked him if he shares any intimate scenes with Richa. “Oh yes. There are a few scenes between me and Richa,” says Sharad with a wink. Ever since the first rushes of Ram-Leela were released, the sizzling chemistry and the bold love-making scenes between Ranveer and Deepika dominated headlines giving the movie some unprecedented publicity. When we asked Sharad on what he thought about the film being bold, the actor had this to say. “Yes, the film is bold. It is perhaps the boldest Sanjay sir has possibly made. But let me tell you it has the classy look and feel that Sanjay sir is synonymous with. It is not at all dirty. For me, Ram-Leela is a classic.” Well, looking at the way critics have lavished praise on the movie, we sure can’t dispute Sharad’s claim!!!
