Before Gadar 2, Sunny Deol had twelve flops. In fact, very few films of Deol have worked at the box office in recent times. Among the few that actually worked after Gadar: Ek Prem Katha in 2021 are Indian, Apne and Yamla Pagla Deewana.

Deol first time shot to fame as an angry superstar with Ghayal in 1990. He maintained that image and paved the way towards becoming a warrior with JP Dutta’s Border in 1997. However, Gadar was a different kind of film for him.
