Change is the need of the hour, say TV celebs on Republic Day

It was on 26 January 1950, that the Constitution of India came into force. And today, we are celebrating the 64th year of being Republic. But, in spite of population explosion, there are a lot more laws and regulations that need to be brought in place. For, had that been the case something like the Delhi gang rape case would have never happened or we wouldn’t have read stories of rapes happening every other day in the papers. Moreover, we would have never been scared of our lawmakers more than the lawbreakers.
Keeping in mind the above mentioned incident, we got in touch with a few television celebrities to know their take, on the changes they envisage that our country needs to bring about in the coming years for a better society. Said Hina Khan aka Akshara of Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, “Starting from bribery, corruption and political structures, a lot needs to be changed. Women are not at all safe in our country. I think we need to respect women. And for this the government needs to pull up its socks when it comes to making our country safer.“ The heartbeat of the younger generation Shantanu Maheshwari, better known as Swayam of Dil Dostii Dance (D3), averred, “I think we need a better infrastructure, especially the roads. The government also must indeed do something about women’s safety.” “I think the main reason for everything that’s going wrong in our country is the ever growing corruption. Its growth is stunting the growth of everything else. No matter how much we crib about the bad roads or poor education system, nothing will change till we do away with corruption,” averred Debina Bonnerjee aka Mayuri of Chidiya Ghar. Akshay Dogra, aka Sooraj of Punar Vivah, thinks that the change should start from within. “We need to start from the following few basic rules like not jumping the line when in a bus queue. Like yesterday, I had to board a bus to catch a flight, when a man jumped the line with his children and I was turned away from boarding the bus. Initially, we need to understand the message we are passing on to our children. Let’s understand one thing that they will never follow a rule if we do not. And mind you, these small things turn into a snow ball. Furthermore, our lawmakers need to stop self service and do some public service,” he shared. Observed Sargun Mehta aka Bulbul of Kyaa Hua Tera Vaada, “We need to inflict a lot of changes in our country. But, I do not expect much as corruption in our country is growing with each passing day. I think the government seriously needs to sit down and work towards getting better policies to avoid what happened in the last one year in our country.” “People do not really follow rules in our country. In fact the lawmakers break them the maximum number of times. While you are travelling you will notice that there are times when you do not know if the signal is red or green as a political party’s board is hanging on it,” maintained Karan V Grover aka Gulshan of Hum Aapke Hai In-Laws. “The government only takes some strict action against a rapist after one out-of-the box incident comes into the limelight. It’s not like rape has taken place in our country for the first time ever. You literally have to keep a knife on their neck for them to make a fast track judgment. Our laws need to be updated. There is a Facebook update every month, but we haven’t updated our law in the past 50 years till we came across the recent rape case,” he added. These are the changes that our television celebs are looking forward to. What are the changes that you’d want to be brought in before our constitution gets rustier than it is….Pen in your comments in the comment section below.
